  New supplier partners with AWE

Hawaii vacation packager Blue Sky Tours Hawaii and Agents Who Excel announced a training partnership Feb. 29 to benefit BST's member agents.

AWE is a professional development company for the travel industry. Formed by a highly experienced, home-based travel agent, Kelley Sexton, AWE is providing internet-based and live teaching, counseling, and guidance.

Charlotte Kerr, Blue Sky Tours Hawaii Sales & Marketing Manager, said, “Kelley was our first home-based agent channel, and was highly effective. When we looked at her new company, we saw she is working with agents who are serious about running successful businesses. They will have the skills and knowledge to appreciate tour operators who provide superior value in both product pricing and administration.

“Therefore, it is a natural partnership!”

“Like many other travel-related companies, BST saw the contribution we could make to their bottom line by enabling their registered agents become more effective,” Sexton added.

Blue Sky Tours Hawaii's the latest major travel company to turn to AWE. Host agencies, other training providers and suppliers including a major cruise line have also decided to encourage their registered agents to try AWE's unique services.

After 17 years of business travel management, Sexton established her own home-based travel agency, Magic Carpet Travel. In her third year, working alone, she approached $.75 million in sales. That was when Blue Sky Tours Hawaii appointed her their first home-based channel.

Kerr continued, “We want to work with agents who know how to run their business. We hope AWE members will provide us with ideas and suggestions to improve our processes in the constantly changing selling environment.”

Sexton said negotiations are underway with more companies that see the likely benefit to their agents' bottom lines.

“I am proud and excited that Blue Sky's leadership sees the potential in what we have to offer for their agents,” Sexton said.

Sexton has been a panel member and presenter at several travel trade shows including the home-based travel agent show in Las Vegas last December. She writes a column in “Agent @ Home” magazine and was featured in the November '07 issue of “Home-Based Travel Agent.”

The Albuquerque-based tour operator has been packaging Hawaii for 29 years and is a Mark Travel subsidiary.
