Blue Sky Tours founder Dennis Odom to retire, Wilmore to lead transition as Vice President/General Manager
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., May 5, 2008 - Blue Sky Tours, a leading Hawaii vacation company, is announcing the retirement of Dennis Odom, vice president and co-founder of the Albuquerque-based tour operator, effective June 1, 2008. Kevin Wilmore, currently BST director of operations and planning, will become vice president and general manager.
Dennis Odom and his brother Jay founded BST in 1981 with a desire to serve travel agents with specialized programs to one destination: Hawaii. They built a customer-centric company and team dedicated to understanding traveler's needs that offers the best value and experience. Blue Sky Tours, a subsidiary of The Mark Travel Corporation since 1998, has offered Hawaii packages exclusively through retail travel agents for more than 27 years. Even as the travel industry changed over three decades, the company's focus on its unique business proposition and culture remained constant and successful.
"Dennis has left a permanent legacy on the Hawaii travel market," said Bill La Macchia of The Mark Travel Corporation. "He and his brother created a unique and industry-leading company that will continue to grow and thrive with the dedicated people who remain passionate about the destination and the customers they serve."
"Being part of Mark Travel has allowed BST to grow and develop new relationships without compromising its unique services, competitive prices and personalized knowledge of Hawaii," said Dennis Odom.
Kevin Wilmore, who joined The Mark Travel Corporation in 1994 and became part of the BST team in 2004, will lead the company during the transition. A core member of Odom's leadership team, Wilmore is one of more than 90 BST team members who are all Hawaii specialists, a differentiator BST attributes to its role as an industry leader.
"Kevin's knowledge of BST and the continuity of Dennis's leadership team will offer agents, suppliers and employees consistency during this time of change," said La Macchia. "The true strength of the company has been that all team members excel in their roles, which will be even more evident in the coming months."
BST will remain headquartered in Albuquerque and committed to providing retail travel agents the lowest prices to Hawaii with exclusive distribution.
